I had a lot of fun with my Card-in-a-Box when I added lots of lush tropical leaves, flowers toucans and even a few geckos.
I started by die cutting one solid box piece, step 1. Next, I die cut the second box piece with the trellis insert in place, step 2. Then, very carefully, I used the edge of the trellis pattern as a guide and hand-cut the trellis out of the box front., step 3 and 4.

I die cut five of the insert pieces with the trellis die in place, step 5. Again, I hand-cut out the trellis pattern from the center of the inserts, step 6. I now had the card front and back plus five insert pieces, step 7. I assembled the box with full-size inserts. You can find my assembly tutorial HERE.
To create a feeling of looking deep into a lush jungle, I die cut lots of tropical leaves from several of my Tropicool Vibes die sets. My art training theory was to cut larger leaves in lighter colors and have those near the front of the card and smaller leaves in darker colors towards the back of the card. This created visual depth.

Next, I die cut five toucans to perch among the tropical leaves which include lots of tiny, colorful pieces. It was fun to mix and match the colors to create the colorful birds.
I added the toucans, some flowers and a few hidden geckos and chameleons. I wanted to create a mysterious deep jungle look to this card.

Here’s a view from the top showing the various layers.

Finally, here is the card folded flat for mailing.
