Have you seen all of the trend reports about the rising popularity of the clean aesthetics of the Art Deco look? I thought this would be a perfect time to share the modern Art Deco inspiration behind my Gift and Gather collection by Sizzix.
This is a simple gift card holder featuring my updated Art Deco inspiration and another popular trend of using scraps of paper to fill openings in an outlined design.

I started with a piece of white cardstock folded and trimmed to 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ as the card base. I used Sizzix adhesive sheets on the back of another piece of white cardstock and die cut the flower “framework” using my Gift Card Pop up die by Sizzix. Next, I used three shades of Distress Oxides; Abandoned Coral, Picked Raspberry and Cracked Pistachio.

I applied the Distress Oxides directly to the craft sheet, spritzed some water and dragged the paper across the Oxide until I was happy with how it looked.

I removed the adhesive backing on the flower “framework” and placed it on the inked surface.

I selected two shades of mint cardstock, applied an adhesive sheet to the backs and die cut them using the flower “framework” die and a Precision Base Plate in my Big Shot machine. The Precision Base Plate made it easy to die cut this intricate design. I carefully selected the pieces of dark mint leaves that I wanted to use and placed them into the flower “framework” on the front of the card.

I repeated this step with the light mint cardstock.

I had selected seven shades of pink cardstock but only used six. I applied adhesive sheets to the back and die cut them in the same manner as the leaves. I don’t know why the back of the metal die looks so strange but it worked perfectly.

I started with the darkest color in the center of the flower and got progressively lighter as I moved outwards. The flower on the right started with a medium color and went to more lighter shades.

Here are all of the colors that I used.

These pieces were very small but it was surprisingly enjoyable to fill in the spaces.

The die set also comes with an insert shape that pops up the gift card when opened. I added a piece of washi tape for a bit of detail on the inside.

To finish the front I used the “Thanks” word die included in this set and adhered it below the flowers.

My entire Gift and Gather collection of dies and stamps by Sizzix is designed to enhance any celebration and perfectly blends the modern Art Deco trend with DIY projects throughout the year, think holidays, graduation, birthdays and weddings.
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and happy crafting!
