Wander Through a Travel Journal

Sometimes an idea for a design just floats into my head and I am inspired to create and play. I have so many Christmas ideas in my head but my passport was sitting out and this idea for a Wander, Travel Journal layout came to me.

1Supplies

The supplies needed are a Sizzix SideKick machine, my Picture This! paper pad, my Photo Frames, Travel dies and stamp set, four narrow washi tapes in coordinating colors, wood-veneer paper {or neutral paper of your choice}, white and aqua cardstock, plus adhesives.

Die_cut_pieces
Because most of the dies in my Picture This! collections are narrow, I was able to cut all of my pieces using the Sizzix SideKick machine. I cut the Frame with the interchangeable word “Wander” at the top. I also cut four airplane shapes all from wood veneer paper.

Assemble_layers
Start by using the Map pattern paper from my Picture This! paper pad and trim to 4″ x 5 1/4″. Next cut a piece of white cardstock to 2 1/2″ x 4″ and adhere it to the center of the Map. Cut a piece of aqua cardstock to 2″ x 3 1/4″ and adhere it to the center of the white cardstock.

draw1
Center the Frame on top of the aqua cardstock but do not adhere it yet. Lightly trace the large opening with a pencil and set the Frame aside.

draw2
Using a ruler, draw a light pencil line starting around 1″ from the bottom left of the aqua paper to about 1″ down from the top right of the same paper. This will give you an angled line ready for the next step.

washi1
Using the boldest color of slim washi tape, lay it on top of your pencil line as shown. We will trim this later so it doesn’t have to be exact.

washi2
Leave about a 3/16″ gap between the other washi tapes and place them as shown above.

washi3
Trim the left sides of the washi tapes so that they are even with the papers as shown. Note that the first, boldest washi tape extends beyond the other three shorter tapes.

frame1
Carefully lift up the right side of the boldest washi tape and adhere the Frame to the aqua cardstock being careful to not adhere on top of the bold tape.

frame2
Once the Frame is adhered, replace the bold washi tape OVER the Frame right edge as shown.

planes1
Adhere the die cut airplanes at the right ends of the washi tape. Notice that the boldest washi tape looks like it is “flying” out of the Frame.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial on making a fun design to document your adventures in your Travel Journal or you can use it as a card for a traveling friend.
