This Tiny Succulent Terrarium was created using my Geometric Holder die and Succulent 2D & 3D dies from Sizzix. This was the first time I had ever used Shrinky Dinks. I must be the only crafty adult that has never played with Shrinky Dinks as a child.

To make the Geometric Holder, I die cut the pieces out of a recycled, clear Sizzix Bigz die packaging. This worked beautifully and folded nicely. I used hot glue to hold the pieces together. This can get messy so don’t use a lot of glue and don’t touch the glue gun to the clear plastic to avoid melting.

I used foil craft tape from Michaels to add the appearance of the metal that holds together a real glass terrarium.

To make the succulents, I first die cut the Shrinky Dink plastic using my Succulents 2D & 3D dies. I cut 42 pieces of the largest Echeveria leaf, 28 pieces of the medium leaf and 28 pieces of the smallest leaf. This was enough to make 14 tiny succulents.

I wanted to experiment with coloring the plastic so I started with Distress Inks in Evergreen Bough and Picked Raspberry.

For my second coloring experiment, I tried Copic markers in YG03 and BG15. I also colored some using BV00 and B21 for a more bluish succulent.

Both techniques worked very well. I think the Copics were less messy but the colors were beautiful on both.

The really nice part about the way the Shrinky Dinks melt is that they curl, which makes them look very natural as succulents. I used hot glue to assemble three large leaves, two medium leaves and two small leaves into each tiny succulent plant.

To create the terrarium, I first layered some thrifted pearls on the bottom to look like sand. I added a layer of dry moss and then placed the completed succulents on top of the moss. Each tiny succulent is about the size of a penny.

I had one tiny succulent left over so I glued it to the end of my Sizzix Die Pick.
