Welcome to the Designer Crafts Connection February Link up. The theme is Last Minute Valentines. This project is so simple and fun.
These are my Valentine Birds on a Branch delivering hearts to my Valentine.
I began by adhering vintage music sheets to Little Sizzles Mat Boards by Sizzix. This is a thick board so the bird’s legs would not bend easily. I die cut the various birds using the Sizzix dies; Birds and Tim Holtz Bird Silhouette.
I even used vintage sheet music based on songs about birds. To add some variety you can die cut on the blank side of the board so some birds will face the opposite direction.
I inked the edges with Distress inks in Worn Lipstick and Antique Linen. The sheet music was already old so I wanted to just highlight the edges.
I used Distress Paint in Picket Fence to paint the clothes pins. This created a nice white-washed finish. While the clothes pins were drying, I adhered two sheets of various pink cardstock together so that there would be a nice color or pattern on both sides and it would be strong enough to be sewn without tearing.
I then die cut several heart sizes using Stephanie Ackerman’s Hearts #4 by Sizzix. I stamped embossing ink and gold embossing powder to create roses on one side of the hearts. Hearts, roses and love birds, get it?
After the embossing powder was set, I stitched together two, and sometimes three hearts in a line. I wanted them to dangle below the birds.
I left a lot of thread at the top and the bottom of each strand of hearts.
To finish off the hearts at the bottom, I tied on a bead and a cotton thread tassel. I forgot to photograph the tassel but you can see it in the finished photos.
Using hot glue, I adhered the birds to the front of the clothes pin and the top of the heart threads to the back of the clothes pin.
I hope you enjoy this quick, last-minute Valentine idea to bring a smile to someone you love. Please visit the Designer Crafts Connection site for more inspiration.
