Just Had to Share This Fabric Thrift Haul
Tucked away in a small strip mall I discovered an unassuming sewing supply thrift store called Lucky Deluxe Fabrics. Neat and organized with a wide selection, this is such a happy place. I’ve only been there twice but both times the store was buzzing with friendly laughter and many repeat customers.
I went there looking for embroidery floss and was thrilled to find a nice selection. There was so much fabric but I didn’t need any large quantities. I scoured the Aida cloth and vintage linens for possible embroidery backgrounds but I have plenty for now. Tons of vintage sewing patterns for those who are curious.
I finally wandered over to the yarn wall. I didn’t need any more yarn but I’m always looking for something unique. So much eye-candy! And that is when I noticed the scrap basket. Bits of fabric too small for most sewing projects but ripe with variations of fibers and patterns. I immediately saw a bag labeled “Hand-dyed silk” and snatched that up. Then I noticed some Japanese fabric in a bag. Such a nice variety. I loved the subdued colors (shibui) and wonderful textures. Yes, please!
I’ve already made one project using just a small bit of the silk. I’ve been inspired to use the subdued cotton fabrics for a small quilted project. And I am waiting for a spark of inspiration to use the gorgeous blue silks. I am sending one piece to my sister and can’t wait to see what she makes with it. Meanwhile, I’m reorganizing my studio to stash my new treasures.
