Get Ready to Celebrate!

However you celebrate Independence Day, how about adding a little festive flair to your day! Rosettes and streamers remind us of old-fashioned celebrations so we created our own versions to decorate for the 4th of July picnics, barbeques or any get-together.

TOOLS

  • Ribbon Rosette die
  • Die cutting machine
  • Chopsticks
  • Adhesives – liquid and hot glue

MATERIALS

  • Card stock – Stars and Stripes patterns, solids in red, white and blue
  • Ribbons and lace – various widths in red, white and blue

For each rosette, die cut 3 large curved shapes, 1 white zig-zag circle, 1 red circle and 1 circle from patterned card stock. Repeat these quantities for each rosette.

Each curved shape has crease lines. Starting on the left, create a mountain fold. Alternate with a valley fold then a mountain fold until you finish with the narrow glue tab. Repeat this on all curved shapes.

Gather all of the folds to create a fan shape. Use a burnishing tool to make crisp creases. Repeat on all curved shapes.

Apply adhesive to the front of the glue tab and adhere the left side of the next curved shape to the front of the glue tab.

Repeat adhering the glue tab to the next curved shape until you have a complete circle.

On the back side of the rosette, gently gather the folds to create a tight circle.

Apple either liquid adhesive or hot glue in the center area and adhere the die cut red circle to secure the rosette shape

Flip the rosette so that the front is facing towards you. Again, apply either liquid adhesive or hot glue in the center and adhere the die cut, white zig-zag circle to the center of the rosette.

Adhere the pattern paper circles in the middle of the zig-zag circle.

Select various widths of red, white and blue ribbons and lace.

Cut 7 inch lengths of each ribbon and lace.

Use one chopstick for each rosette.

Apply hot glue on the flat end of the chopstick and begin layering the widest ribbon or lace. Continue adhering each piece of ribbon.

Place the decorated chopsticks in a vase as a centerpiece or scatter them around the picnic table.

Enjoy a festive truly American holiday!
