Graduation Celebrations Deserve Something Special

These gorgeous crepe paper orchids are simple to make and look so beautiful. Make a bunch to create a lei or make a few to decorate a gift, a corsage or a table decoration.

TOOLS

MATERIALS

  • Crepe paper in 3 shades of pinks, 1 shade of green
  • Medium weight paper in yellow or green, 3 sheets of 12″x12″ for Lei
  • Bakers Twine, 40 inches

For each orchid you will need to die cut:
Large paper stem in green or yellow: 1
Dark pink crepe paper petal: 1
Medium pink crepe paper petals: 2
Light pink crepe paper petals: 3
Green leaf crepe paper : 1 or more

Stem: Starting from the widest side, roll the paper stem tightly

Roll the stem until you come to the small end and secure the tip with liquid adhesive

Petals

Pinching the edges together, gently wrinkle the edges of the pink petals.

Apply a small amount of liquid adhesive to the base of the dark pink petal and adhere it to the thick tip of the stem about 1/2″ from the end.

Adhere the two medium pink petals as shown (120 degree angles around the stem tip)

Adhere the remaining three light pink petals between the other petals as shown.

The leaves can either be adhered with their pointed tip or rounded tip facing out. Adhere them to the stem at the base of the petals

For the lei, make at least 24 orchids.

Trim off the base of the stem and pull Bakers twine through the center of each stem to connect the orchids.

The orchids can also be used as beautiful table decorations without trimming their stems
