National Card Making Day

Everyone loves shaker cards but I wanted to shake things up a bit for National Card Making Day.

I cut a piece of black cardstock in half to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and folded it.

Using a Dashed Circle die, I die cut a circle in the front of the card. This also gave me an inner dashed circle which I can save for another project.

Dashed circle cut

I used a Simple Circle die to cut a black cardstock circle slightly larger than the dashed edge and a clear acetate window for the shaker front. I also used a second, slightly smaller circle die together to cut a ring from black foam adhesive.

To assemble, adhere the acetate window BEHIND the Dashed Circle opening. After applying antistatic powder to the inner edge of the foam adhesive ring, I adhered the foam ring around the acetate window on the card. Then I added the tiny, 3mm, wiggle eyes, available from Hobby Lobby.

eyes

The wiggle eyes tend to sit with the flat side towards the acetate window. When you adhere the backing and turn the card over, the majority of the eyes are facing away from the window. I turned all of the little wiggle eyes towards the window, it was tedious but the results were better.

Next, peel the backing off of the foam adhesive ring and adhere the plain circle to close the shaker window.

I used Tim Holtz’s Scared Silly stamp for the monster and the words and colored them with Copic Markers.

For the words, I used a shape from my Mini Album die set that looked like a headstone. and used Distress Inks to add color.

I used foam dots on the monster. A few wiggle eyes are looking away but the majority make for a great shaker card filler.

Happy National Card Making Day!
