Welcome to the Designer Crafts Connection blog hop for the month of June. This month’s theme is Gift for Guys. One thing that I noticed about both my Dear Handyman and my son is that they needed a place to keep their keys and phones when not in use. I decided to solve this with my Gift for Guys project.
I built this out of an inexpensive frame from Ikea, a wooden yardstick and a wooden Scrabble tile holder.
I first removed the glass from the Ikea frame. Next, I cut the yardstick and Scrabble tile holder with my little craft saw and miter box. I glued the yardstick pieces to the inside of the frame back where the glass would normally fit. I glued these in place, leaving a small gap at the top and bottom {see bottom left photo above} so that five pieces of the yardstick would fill the front of the frame. Next, I glued the Scrabble tile stand to the bottom of the frame front. Once all of the glue was dry, I used Howard Feed-N-Wax {available from Home Depot} to protect and darken the color of the various woods.
The Ikea frame also comes with a metal stand to insert in the back. I also added a small hook on the front of the frame to hold keys. The Scrabble tile ledge holds the phone and keeps everything neat.
