I am excited to share one of my new Sizzix Home Décor dies. It is a unique Ampersand die set that is more versatile than it may first appear.
The fun part of this Ampersand is that it cuts a positive and negative shape that are both great designs. For this project on the record above I used the positive shape and adhered it to a large vintage vinyl record.
To create this, I first wanted to cover the record label without losing the instant recognition that it was a record. Here are the steps I used to create this:
- Die cut a 4 inch circle out of black cardstock.
- Tape this black circle to the center of the record using repositionable tape.
- Turn the record over and mark the center hole with a pencil.
- Place the hole die on the marked circle.
- Carefully flip this over and place on a Movers and Shapers tray. Die cut the center circle.
- Adhere the circle to the record, aligning the hole of the circle to the hole on the record.
The Ampersand die is large so it must be used with either the Big Shot Plus or Big Shot Pro machines. Die cut the Ampersand and adhere it to the center of the record as shown in the top photo.
This set also includes dies to cut flowers, leaves, swirls and a large banner. I had so much fun creating a Step-ups card and a Flip-its card plus two single-fold cards using the various shapes.
All of these flowers were created using this set.
The photos below were taken at the Craft and Hobby Association trade show in January and highlights another way to use the Sizzix Ampersand and the banner. This example shows the negative piece of the Ampersand after it is cut.
I am creating more projects using this die so please check back for more ideas.
