I have so much fun making something pretty out of objects that would normally be considered useless. A few years ago I had thrifted a box of silver-toned, mis-matched sugar bowl lids at a garage sale. They are quite decorative and made perfect little display stands for some St. Patrick’s Day Paper Rosettes.

I gathered up lots of scrapbooking paper in various shades of green and die cut them using the Sizzix Paper Rosette Die. I also cut some Sizzix Circles, Scallop 2 to add to the center of the rosettes.

Rosettes

To add some variety to the Rosettes I increased the diameter by doubling-up the paper strips {see instructions below}. This is a fun little trick which also adds a second band of color to each Rosette. As an option, I printed out the sayings on my computer and used a circle punch to cut them out. I glued everything together and used the sugar bowl lids to display them for St. Patrick’s Day.

To hang the Rosettes I used 26 gauge wire. I think 24 gauge would have been better for stability but I only had 26 gauge. {Note: the smaller the gauge number, the thicker the wire.} Using wire cutters, I cut a piece about six inches long. I began by wrapping one end around the knob at the top of the lid. Then I worked the wire until I had a nice wide arc and used pliers to form a hook on the other end.

I punched a tiny hole in the top of the rosette and hooked it on the wire above the lid. I continued to work the wire to balance the Rosette.

I had so much fun making the Rosettes that I made more and attached several to a piece of ribbon and created a festive banner.
