The fun part of being creative is that everything around you has potential for being something more. Take, for example, this small candy box that I received a few years ago. It only held three pieces of candy just to give you an idea of the size of this box. But it also held a lot of potential for a future Valentine’s project which I made today.

Here is a composite photo of supplies I used.

Supplies

I used only the lid of the candy heart box. I also used a piece of flat styrofoam cut to fit inside the heart. I cut pink roses using the Tattered Pinecone die. I used a combination of two shades of pink paper from the new Sizzix designer paper pads plus a lighter shade of pink cardstock for variety.

I hot glued the roses to the styrofoam insert.

I made this as a gift for my Dear Handyman {my dear boyfriend} so it only seemed appropriate to add a new technique I learned using plumber’s tape from the hardware store. Plumber’s tape is inexpensive, shiny metal adhesive tape about 1 7/8″ wide. My friend Wendy told me about this tape and when I asked Dear Handyman about it, he gave me a roll of the stuff. I decided to use it to make a tag to go with the Hearts and Roses box.

Tag

I started with a piece of Plumber’s tape about 4″ long and a red piece of cardstock cut to the same size. I removed the backing on the tape and adhered it to the cardstock. Next, I used a die from the Tag Collection set and cut a small tag.

The next step was a little tricky. I wanted to deboss just the word “Love” from the Sentiments Shadowpress debossing folder set. The folder originally said “Love You”. So I used a pair of Sidekick Cutting Pads {any cutting pads will work but the Sidekick ones are small for better control} and sandwiched only the word “Love” before running it through my BigShot. I ended up with just the word “Love” cleanly debossed in the metal plumber’s tape tag.

I added some thrifted heart lace around the outside of the box and some ribbon to the tag.

Simple yet sentimental.
